WinWalk vs Edge Rewards: Steps Only, or Every Workout?

A fair, hedged look at a popular step-rewards app and Edge Rewards, the workout-based programme launching on 7 November 2026.

TL;DR

  • WinWalk rewards steps. Edge Rewards will reward any logged workout as well as steps.
  • WinWalk is live in the UK now and free. Its app listing says you get 1 coin for every 100 steps, up to 100 coins a day, and coins go towards gift cards.
  • Edge Rewards is not live yet. It launches on 7 November 2026, with founding-member early access for the waitlist from 1 November.
  • Edge Rewards will give up to 50 points a day: 1 point per minute of any logged workout, plus 2.5 points per 1,000 steps, spent on real products from partner brands.
  • Choose WinWalk if walking is your main movement and you want something today. Choose Edge Rewards if you lift, run or do HIIT and want that to count.

Edge Rewards public launch in 2026, with founding-member early access from 1 November

Being rewarded for moving is a simple, appealing idea, and there are now several apps built around it. WinWalk is one of the better-known step-rewards apps you can download in the UK today. Edge Rewards is our own programme, and it takes a different route: it is built around workouts first and steps second. If you are weighing up the two, the right choice depends on how you actually move in a normal week.

One thing to say plainly before we go further. Edge Rewards is not live yet. Founding members on the waitlist get early access from Sunday 1 November 2026, and the public launch is Saturday 7 November 2026. Everything we say about it below describes what it will do at launch. WinWalk is available now, and its rates and rewards can change, so treat the WinWalk details here as a snapshot from our own checks at the time of writing and confirm them in the app.

What is WinWalk, and how does it work in the UK?

WinWalk is a free step-counter app for iPhone and Android. According to its UK app store listings, it counts your steps using your phone's motion sensor instead of GPS, so indoor, outdoor and treadmill steps all register. On iPhone, the listing says it can sync with Apple Health and work alongside an Apple Watch or other step trackers.

The earning rule is easy to follow. The listing states that you get 1 coin for every 100 steps, up to 100 coins a day. In other words, 10,000 steps reaches the daily limit for walking. On top of that, there are optional ways to add coins, which at the time of writing include short videos, surveys, games, partner offers and weekly challenges. There are also leagues and achievements if you enjoy a bit of friendly competition.

Two practical points come up in independent reviews. First, several reviewers say you need to open the app and collect your coins each day, often with a short advert, or that day's steps do not convert. Second, the app is funded by advertising, which is how it can offer rewards for free. Neither is unusual for this kind of app, but both are worth knowing before you start.

What is Edge Rewards, and how will it work?

Edge Rewards is a free rewards programme inside the Edge app, launching in November 2026. The idea is that your training earns points, and you spend those points on real products from partner brands.

Here is how the points will work. You can earn up to 50 points a day. You get 1 point for every minute of any logged workout, up to 50 points, plus 2.5 points for every 1,000 steps, up to 25 points. The two add together, with a combined daily cap of 50 and no roll-over to the next day. Points reset to zero at the end of each calendar month, so the programme favours a steady habit over one big week.

A few examples make it clearer. A 30-minute strength session plus 8,000 steps is 30 points and 20 points, which reaches the 50-point cap. A 50-minute run reaches the cap on its own. A day with 10,000 steps and no workout earns 25 points. As an illustration, about a week of training earns a free coffee.

Everyone earns and redeems. Edge Pro members will earn faster with Double XP, have no daily cap, and get exclusive prizes and secret offers.

What counts: steps only, or any workout?

This is the main difference between the two. As far as we can tell from its listing and from reviews, WinWalk rewards steps. That suits walking well, and a run will add plenty of steps too. But a strength session, a swim, a bike ride or a mobility routine adds very few steps, so those sessions earn little on a step-based model, however hard they felt.

Edge Rewards will start from the workout. Any logged workout counts at 1 point per minute, including running, strength, HIIT and mobility. That covers sessions you enter manually and sessions imported from Strava, Apple Health, Garmin and Coros. Steps count as well, but they are the smaller part of the daily total.

So look at your own week. If nearly all of your movement is walking, a step app captures it. If your week mixes lifting, classes, runs and walks, a workout-based programme will recognise more of what you do.

What can you get, and how long does it take?

WinWalk coins are exchanged for gift cards. The UK listing mentions well-known online and supermarket retailers, and the range can vary by country and over time. Gift cards are flexible, which is a real plus, because you choose where to spend them.

The pace is steady, not quick. As far as we could find, WinWalk does not publish its UK thresholds outside the app. Independent reviews have put a £10 gift card at around 20,000 coins in the UK, though that figure may be out of date. If it is roughly right, steps alone at 100 coins a day would take around 200 days, and the optional videos, surveys and offers would shorten that. Check the rewards screen in the app for the current numbers.

Edge Rewards points will be spent in an in-app marketplace on real products from partner brands, a mix of free items and discounts. Example categories include coffee and drinks, gels, snacks and bars, protein and supplements, and apparel and gear. The rewards are gifted by partner brands.

Because points reset at the end of each calendar month, you spend what you earn within the month. Think of it as smaller, regular rewards, not a balance you build over a year. That is worth weighing up honestly. If you would prefer to save slowly towards a gift card, WinWalk's model may suit you better, though it is worth checking its terms on whether coins expire.

What does each one cost?

Both are free to use. WinWalk is a free download supported by adverts, and we could not find a premium subscription for it at the time of writing. Edge Rewards will be free for every member to earn and redeem.

Edge also offers Edge Pro from £19.99 a month with a free 7-day trial. Pro is a full training product: a fully personalised plan across running, strength, HIIT and mobility, ready in 15 minutes, with a real coach to message anytime. It also speeds up rewards with Double XP and removes the daily cap. You do not need Pro to take part in Edge Rewards.

How do they compare side by side?

Here is the short version in one place. WinWalk is live today. Edge Rewards launches in November 2026, so the Edge row describes what it will do at launch.

Which one should you choose?

There is no single winner here, because the two reward different things.

  • Choose WinWalk if most of your movement is walking, you want to start today, you like gift cards, and you do not mind opening the app each day and seeing adverts.
  • Choose Edge Rewards if you train in more than one way, such as running, strength, HIIT and mobility, and you would like training-related products instead of gift cards. You will need to wait until November.
  • Use both if you like. They are separate apps, so you can count steps in WinWalk now and earn Edge Rewards points for your workouts once it launches.

Whichever you pick, a reward works best as a small nudge. The real benefit is the habit itself: moving most days, in a way you enjoy. If a few coins or points help you get out of the door on a wet Tuesday, they are doing their job.

When can you start with Edge Rewards?

Founding members on the waitlist get early access from Sunday 1 November 2026. Everyone else can join from the public launch on Saturday 7 November 2026. The Edge app itself is free and available now, with 20,000+ members, so you can get used to logging your training before rewards go live.
