parkrun and Edge Rewards: What Your Saturday 5K Could Earn

The points maths for a 25-minute and a 35-minute parkrun, the walk there and back, and a full week of training, ahead of the November launch.

TL;DR

  • A Saturday parkrun could earn up to 50 Edge Rewards points: 1 point per minute of the logged run plus 2.5 points per 1,000 steps, capped at 50 a day.
  • A 25-minute parkrun earns 25 points from the run, a 35-minute one earns 35, and walking to and from the start adds more on top.
  • It counts whether you record it with Strava, Garmin, Apple Health or Coros, or add it as a manual entry.
  • parkrun is free and is not a rewards scheme. Edge is not affiliated with parkrun.
  • Edge Rewards is not live yet. Founding-member early access opens on Sunday 1 November 2026, and everyone else can join from Saturday 7 November 2026.

Everyone can join Edge Rewards, and it is a parkrun Saturday

Your Saturday parkrun could earn up to 50 Edge Rewards points, the most a free member can earn in a day. The run itself earns 1 point per minute, so a 25-minute parkrun is worth 25 points and a 35-minute parkrun is worth 35, and the steps you walk to and from the start add 2.5 points per 1,000 on top.

Before the sums, two plain facts. Edge Rewards is our own free rewards programme and it is not live yet: founding-member early access opens on Sunday 1 November 2026, and everyone else can join from Saturday 7 November 2026. And parkrun is a free, volunteer-led event that has nothing to do with points. Edge is not affiliated with parkrun, and parkrun is not a rewards scheme. Edge Rewards simply treats your parkrun like any other logged run.

If you have never been, our guide to what to expect at your first parkrun covers the morning from start to finish. This article is about what happens afterwards, when the run lands in Edge.

How does Edge Rewards turn a parkrun into points?

The rules are short, and they are the same for a parkrun as for any other session:

  • Workouts: 1 point for every minute of any logged workout, up to 50 points.
  • Steps: 2.5 points for every 1,000 steps, up to 25 points.
  • Daily cap: workouts and steps combine to a maximum of 50 points a day, with no roll-over to the next day.
  • Monthly reset: points reset to zero at the end of each calendar month.

So the time on your watch matters, not your pace. A runner who finishes in 25 minutes earns 25 points from the run, and someone who takes 35 minutes earns 35. Edge Rewards rewards time spent moving, so a slower parkrun earns more points from the run itself, not fewer.

What do a 25-minute and a 35-minute parkrun earn?

Here is the maths for two typical finish times, with and without the walk to and from the start. To keep it conservative, the step column only counts steps outside the run itself, such as the walk there and back and the rest of your day. As a rough estimate, a 20-minute walk each way is about 4,000 steps in total, though your stride and pace will change that.

Your SaturdayWorkout pointsStep pointsDay total
25-minute parkrun, no other steps counted25025
25-minute parkrun, plus a 20-minute walk each way (about 4,000 steps)251035
25-minute parkrun, walk there and back, about 10,000 steps across the day252550 (cap reached)
35-minute parkrun, no other steps counted35035
35-minute parkrun, plus a 20-minute walk each way (about 4,000 steps)351045
35-minute parkrun, walk there and back, about 6,000 steps across the day351550 (cap reached)

Step counts are rough estimates and vary with stride, pace and device. Edge Rewards is not live yet, so this shows how the published rules will work at launch.

Two things stand out. First, the walk matters: 20 minutes each way adds about 10 points, which turns a decent day into a strong one. Second, the 35-minute runner reaches the 50-point cap with only about 6,000 steps in the day, while the 25-minute runner needs around 10,000. Quicker runners earn fewer points from the run, so their steps do more of the work.

Does a walked parkrun or a volunteering Saturday count?

Yes. parkrun welcomes walkers, joggers and runners, and there is no time limit. On Edge, any logged workout counts, including a walk you log as a workout. A walked parkrun that takes around 50 minutes and is logged as a workout earns 50 points on its own, which is the full daily cap for a free member.

Volunteering is a little different. Marshalling or handing out finish tokens is not a workout in itself, but the steps you take on the morning still count towards your step points, up to 25 for the day. If you jog home afterwards and log it, that run counts too.

What could a full week with a parkrun earn?

parkrun is one morning. Here is a sample hybrid week for a free member, with a strength session, an easy run, a short HIIT circuit and the Saturday parkrun. As before, the steps are for the rest of each day, not the workout itself.

DayWhat you doWorkout pointsStep pointsDay total
MondayRest day, 8,000 steps02020

Sunday40-minute walk logged as a workout, 4,000 other steps401050 (cap reached)
WeekFour workouts, one parkrun, two rest days150115265

That week lands at about 265 points. As a rough guide, about a week of training is enough for a free coffee in the Edge Rewards marketplace, so a steady week like this one sits in that territory. Because Edge treats running, strength and HIIT as one plan, every type of session feeds the same balance, and the parkrun Saturday is simply the day that tops out.

Notice that no single day goes past the cap. A run of 40 to 50-point days beats one huge Saturday followed by a quiet week, because anything over 50 on a given day does not roll over.

How does your parkrun get logged in Edge?

There is no direct link between Edge and parkrun, so your parkrun barcode and official result do not feed into Edge Rewards. What counts is the workout you log in Edge, and there are five ways to get it there:

  • Strava: record the run on Strava, on your phone or on a watch that sends activities there, and let it import.
  • Garmin: record it on your Garmin watch, and it comes through once Garmin is connected to Edge.
  • Apple Health: Apple Watch workouts are saved to Apple Health on your iPhone, and Edge syncs with Apple Health.
  • Coros: record it on your Coros watch, and it comes through once Coros is connected to Edge.
  • Manual entry: no watch? Add the run by hand afterwards using your parkrun result time. Manual entries count at the same 1 point per minute.

Whichever route you choose, the rule of thumb is simple: log it once, earn from it once. For the full picture of which devices and apps count, see our guide on whether Edge Rewards works with Apple Watch, Garmin and Strava.

What can your parkrun points actually get you?

Points are spent in an in-app marketplace on real products from partner brands, a mix of free items and discounts. The categories fit a parkrun morning well: coffee and drinks, gels, snacks and bars, protein and supplements, and apparel and gear. These are examples of categories rather than a fixed list, and every reward is gifted by a partner brand.

Keep expectations sensible. Edge Rewards is a small, real thank you for showing up, a nice bonus on top of the training itself. As a rough guide, about a week of training earns a free coffee, and bigger items take longer.

Everyone earns and redeems for free. Members on Edge Pro, our premium plan from £19.99 a month, earn faster with Double XP, have no daily cap, and get exclusive prizes and secret offers. Edge Pro has a 7-day free trial, and you need a card to start it.

How do you get the most from parkrun Saturdays?

  • Walk there if you can. A 20-minute walk each way is roughly 10 step points on top of the run.
  • Count the whole morning. A logged warm-up jog or a jog home adds workout minutes, up to the daily cap.
  • Watch the end of the month. Points reset to zero at the end of each calendar month, so check your balance in the last week. In November 2026 the last parkrun Saturday is 28 November, two days before the reset.
  • Keep the rest of the week steady. A strength session and a short HIIT circuit midweek earn points and can help your running too.
  • Do not chase points over recovery. After a hard parkrun, a walk and a rest day still earn step points, and effort beyond the 50-point cap does not add to your balance.

If you would like Saturday to be quicker as well as rewarding, our 6-week plan for a parkrun PB shows how to train for it.

One last detail worth knowing: Saturday 7 November 2026, the day everyone can join Edge Rewards, is itself a parkrun Saturday. If you want to be in a week earlier, the waitlist gets you founding-member early access from Sunday 1 November.
