Edge Rewards

How Many Steps Does It Take to Earn a Free Reward?

With Edge Rewards, every 10,000 steps is worth 25 points, so walking alone can carry you a long way towards a free reward.

TL;DR

  • 10,000 steps earns 25 points, which is half of a full 50-point day, so walking alone genuinely counts.
  • Every logged workout adds 1 point per minute, up to a combined daily cap of 50 points for free members.
  • A free coffee sits at roughly a week of moving, a mix of daily steps and a few short sessions.
  • Points are spent in an in-app marketplace on real products from partner brands, from coffee to gels, protein and gear.
  • Points reset to zero at the end of every calendar month, so it pays to redeem before the clock resets.

The most points you can earn in a single day

Steps are the easiest fitness number to understand. Most of us already glance at the count on a phone or watch, so a fair question is simple. If those steps are worth something, how many does it take to earn a reward you actually want? Edge Rewards, our free rewards programme launching in October 2026, is built to answer exactly that. Here is how the maths works, with realistic examples you can copy.

How does Edge Rewards actually work?

Edge Rewards is free for every Edge member. You earn points two ways. The first is steps: you collect 2.5 points for every 1,000 steps, up to 25 points a day. The second is logged workouts: you earn 1 point for every minute you train, up to 50 points. The two combine into a single daily total, and that total is capped at 50 points a day for free members, with no roll-over from one day to the next.

In plain terms, a busy day of walking plus a short session will top you out at 50, and anything beyond that still counts towards your health, just not your points balance. It is a deliberately simple system, and it rewards showing up regularly rather than chasing one huge day.

How many points do 10,000 steps earn?

A 10,000-step day earns 25 points. Because a full day is worth 50, that single walking habit covers half of everything on offer before you log a single workout. That is the part people miss. You do not need to be training hard to build a balance. A brisk walk to work, a lunchtime loop and a stroll after dinner can quietly stack up to 10,000 steps, and that is 25 points banked for the day.

To put steps in context, most adults take somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 steps to cover a mile, so 10,000 steps is roughly 4 to 5 miles of walking. Plenty of members will reach that on an ordinary day without changing much at all, which is exactly why steps make such a friendly starting point for earning.

How many steps does it take to earn a free coffee?

A free coffee is the easiest reward to picture, so let us work through it. As a rough guide, a free coffee sits at about a week of moving. There is more than one way to get there.

First, the pure walker's route. Hit 10,000 steps a day, every day, and you earn 25 points daily. Over a week that is 175 points in the bank, without a single workout logged.

Second, the mixer's route, which is a little faster. On three days, walk your 10,000 steps and add a 25-minute session. The steps give you 25 points, the session gives you 25 more, and that lands exactly on the 50-point daily cap. Three days like that is 150 points. Fill the other four days with 10,000 steps only, at 25 points each, and you add another 100. That is 250 points across the week.

Either way you are in free-coffee territory inside about a week, and you can lean towards whichever style fits your life. The floor is deliberately low, because the whole idea is that ordinary movement should be worth something.

Steps or workouts, which earns faster?

Minute for minute, a logged workout is the quicker earner, because it pays 1 point per minute all the way up to 50, while steps are capped at 25 a day. So a 50-minute session on its own can fill a whole day, whereas steps top out at 25. The smart move is to combine the two. Because 10,000 steps is worth 25, you only need 25 minutes of training on top to reach the daily cap of 50.

In other words, walk your usual amount and add a short session, and you are maxed out for the day without a marathon effort. Steps do the groundwork, and a quick workout finishes the job. That balance is handy on the days when you have twenty spare minutes but not two hours.

Do my workouts count too, or just steps?

Every logged workout counts, not only steps. You earn 1 point for every minute you train, whether that is a run, a strength session, a HIIT class or a mobility flow. It does not matter how the workout reaches Edge either. Manual entries count, and so do imports from Strava, Garmin, Apple Health and Coros, so the training you already track is already earning.

Because Edge treats running, strength and HIIT as one plan rather than separate apps, every kind of session you do feeds the same points balance. There is no need to pick a single discipline to make the numbers add up, and a varied week of training earns just as freely as a week of the same thing.

What can you actually spend points on?

Points are spent in an in-app marketplace on real products from partner brands, a mix of free items and member discounts. The categories are the sort of things a training week actually calls for: coffee and drinks, gels, snacks and bars, protein and supplements, and apparel and gear. These are examples of the categories on offer rather than a fixed list, and every reward is gifted by a partner brand.

Everyone earns and everyone redeems, so the marketplace is open to all Edge members from day one. The free items are the headline for most people, because turning a week of walking into a coffee you did not pay for feels like a genuine win rather than a token gesture.

Does it matter that points reset every month?

Yes, and it is worth planning around. Points reset to zero at the end of each calendar month, and nothing rolls over. That keeps the programme fresh and rewards steady movement rather than hoarding, but it does mean you should spend what you earn. If you are close to a reward you want near the end of the month, a couple of 10,000-step days can be the difference between redeeming and starting again from zero.

A simple rhythm helps. Build your balance through the month, keep an eye on the marketplace for the reward you are aiming at, and redeem before the reset. Treat each month as a clean slate and the points will keep coming.

How do I make the most of every day?

A few simple habits keep your balance climbing:

  • Treat 10,000 steps as your base. It is 25 points for movement you are probably doing anyway.
  • Add a short session when you can. Twenty-five minutes on top of a 10,000-step day is the full 50.
  • Log everything. Manual entries count, so a walk, a five-a-side game or a swim all add up when you record them.
  • Connect your apps once. With Strava, Garmin, Apple Health or Coros linked, your training earns without any extra admin.
  • Watch the calendar. Points reset at month end, so redeem before you lose them.

Is it worth going Edge Pro for rewards?

Edge is free, and so is Edge Rewards. Edge Pro, our premium tier from £19.99 a month with a free 7-day trial, changes how fast you earn. Pro members earn faster with Double XP, have no daily cap so there is no ceiling on a big day, and get access to exclusive prizes and secret offers. If you move a lot, or you simply want your steps and sessions working as hard as possible, the maths tilts in Pro's favour. Either way, the free programme still gives every one of our 18,000+ members a real route to real rewards.
