How to Earn Free Protein and Supplements for Working Out (UK 2026)
The apps and programmes that reward your training with protein, snacks and supplements, and how it actually works.
TL;DR
- You can get protein, snacks and supplements rewarded for training, but most schemes today give discounts and the odd free item, not an endless free supply.
- Activity reward apps turn your steps and workouts into a currency you spend in a marketplace of partner offers.
- Supplement brands run their own free loyalty schemes, and cashback sites hand back a slice of what you spend.
- Watch for daily caps, points that expire, and offers that only pay off once you have spent first.
- Edge Rewards launches in October 2026: earn up to 50 points a day for training you already do, then spend them in an in-app marketplace.

Protein powder, bars and supplements add up over a year, so it is no surprise that more people want their training to help cover the cost. The good news is that there are honest ways to earn protein, snacks and supplements for the exercise you already do. The catch is that most of them reward you with discounts and the occasional free item rather than an endless free supply. Here is how the main routes work in the UK in 2026, what to watch for, and how Edge Rewards will fit in when it launches later this year.
Can you really earn free protein for working out?
You can, within limits. A handful of schemes will genuinely hand you a free product, usually something small like a single bar, a sample or a coffee, once you have banked enough points or passed a spending threshold. More often, the reward is money off your next order or a better price on the brands you already buy. Treated as a top-up rather than a full shop, these schemes can trim a real slice off your yearly supplement bill. Treated as a way to never pay for protein again, they will disappoint. Set your expectations there and the rest makes sense.
How do activity reward apps work?
Activity reward apps are the closest thing to being rewarded directly for movement. They track your steps or workouts, convert that activity into an in-app currency or points, then let you spend it in a marketplace of partner offers.
Sweatcoin is the best known in the UK. It counts verified steps and pays roughly one coin per 1,000 of them, with the free tier capped at around 10 coins a day at the time of writing. You then spend coins in a marketplace that lists hundreds of partner offers, from gadgets and subscriptions to discounts, though the exact line-up changes often and outright free products are the exception rather than the rule.
Vitality Active Rewards works differently because it is tied to health insurance. If you hold an eligible policy, you earn activity points for steps, workouts and gym visits, and hitting a weekly target can unlock rewards such as a coffee from a partner cafe. It is a genuine perk, but only if you already pay for the underlying cover.
The pattern across these apps is the same. Movement earns a currency, the currency buys offers, and the headline value on screen is usually higher than the cash you could get out, because partners are paying to promote themselves.
What about brand loyalty and sampling schemes?
Most large supplement brands run their own free loyalty schemes, and these are often the simplest way to claw back value on protein specifically. A typical scheme gives you points for every £1 you spend, with each point worth around a penny, plus bonus points for actions like completing your profile or downloading the app. Spend enough over a rolling year and you climb tiers that unlock free gifts, early access to sales and members-only products.
It is worth being clear about the trade-off. Loyalty points reward spending, so they lower the price of protein you were going to buy anyway rather than making it free. Sampling is the closer cousin to a free product. Brands and sampling platforms sometimes send out trial sizes of protein, bars or supplements at no cost, usually in exchange for a review or simply to get you hooked on a favourite flavour. Supplies are limited and irregular, so treat sampling as a nice bonus rather than a plan.
Do cashback sites count?
Cashback sites are the quiet workhorse of this whole area. You start at the cashback site, click through to a retailer, then shop as normal. A percentage of what you spend is credited back to your account, shown as pending within a few days and confirmed once the retailer return window closes, often four to twelve weeks later. The two big UK names are free to join at their basic tier at the time of writing.
Cashback does not make protein free, but stacked with a brand loyalty scheme and a discount code it can quietly cut the real cost of a supplement order. The main thing to remember is that you have to spend first and wait to be paid back, so it rewards planned purchases rather than impulse buys.
How do the reward routes compare?
| Route | How you earn | Typical reward | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Activity reward apps | Steps and workouts | In-app currency for partner offers, mostly discounts | Earning from movement you already do |
| Brand loyalty schemes | Money spent with one brand | Points off future orders, occasional free gifts | Cutting the cost of a brand you buy often |
| Sampling schemes | Sign-ups and reviews | Free trial sizes, irregular | Trying new flavours for free |
| Cashback sites | Money spent via a click-through | A percentage back in cash | Planned, larger orders |
| Edge Rewards | Any logged workout, plus steps | Points for an in-app marketplace including protein and supplements, a mix of free items and discounts | Being rewarded for training you already do |
Prices and features change, so check each app for current details. Accurate at the time of writing.
What should you watch for?
A few things separate a scheme that is worth your time from one that quietly wastes it.
- Daily caps. Most activity apps limit how much you can earn in a day, so more training does not always mean more reward.
- Expiry. Points and coins often expire, sometimes on a rolling yearly basis, so unspent balances can vanish.
- Spend to earn. Loyalty and cashback only pay out after you spend, so they reduce cost rather than remove it.
- Value on screen. Marketplace prices can flatter the currency, so check what an offer is really worth before you redeem.
Keep the product itself in perspective too. Supplements are not essential. A balanced diet with enough protein from everyday food covers most people, and powders and bars are a convenience rather than a requirement. If you have a health condition, are pregnant, or take medication, it is worth a word with a professional before adding new supplements.
How will Edge Rewards work?
Edge Rewards is our take on all of this, built so the reward comes from training rather than spending. It launches in October 2026, so it is not live yet, and what follows is what it will do.
It is free. Every member earns up to 50 points a day: one point for each minute of any logged workout, up to 50, plus a smaller amount for your steps, with a combined daily cap of 50. Any logged session counts, including manual entries and workouts imported from Strava, Apple Health, Garmin and Coros, so a run, a strength session or a HIIT class all add up the same way. Points reset at the end of each calendar month, which keeps things fresh rather than letting a big balance gather dust.
You will spend points in an in-app marketplace on real products from partner brands, offered as a mix of free items and discounts. Categories will include coffee and drinks, gels, snacks and bars, protein and supplements, and apparel and gear. As a rough guide, about a week of training could earn a free coffee. Rewards are gifted by partners, and members on Edge Pro earn faster with Double XP, train without a daily cap, and unlock exclusive prizes and secret offers.
The idea is simple. You are already moving. Edge Rewards turns that logged effort into protein, snacks and kit, without asking you to spend more to get it.
