Hybrid training

How to earn rewards while you train for HYROX

HYROX rewards the racer who can run, lift and grind through stations, and from October the training you already do can earn real rewards too.

TL;DR

  • From October 2026, every workout you log in Edge can earn Rewards points you spend on real partner products.
  • HYROX blends running, functional stations and strength into one race, which is exactly the hybrid mix Edge builds into a single plan.
  • You earn 1 point per minute of any logged workout, up to 50, plus points for your steps, with a combined daily cap of 50 for free members.
  • Points redeem in an in-app marketplace for categories like coffee, gels, snacks, protein and gear.
  • Edge Pro earns faster with Double XP and no daily cap, so a heavy race-prep week goes further.

Running, strength and HIIT together, not three apps to juggle

HYROX is one of the fastest growing events in fitness, and it asks a lot of you. You have to run well, move heavy loads, and keep your engine going when your legs are already cooked. That is a hybrid challenge, and hybrid is exactly how Edge builds your training. Better still, from October 2026 the sessions you already put in can earn Edge Rewards points, so your race prep quietly stacks up real rewards along the way.

What actually happens in a HYROX race?

Every HYROX race follows the same format anywhere in the world. You run 1km, complete one functional station, then head back out for another 1km, and you repeat that eight times. So it is eight runs of 1km woven between eight stations, ending with the one most racers remember for days afterwards.

The eight stations always arrive in the same order:

  • SkiErg, 1,000m
  • Sled push, 50m
  • Sled pull, 50m
  • Burpee broad jumps, 80m
  • Rowing, 1,000m
  • Farmers carry, 200m
  • Sandbag lunges, 100m
  • Wall balls, 75 to 100 reps depending on your division

Add it up and you cover 8km of running plus eight stations that test your legs, back, grip and lungs. The weights and rep counts vary by division, so check the current rulebook for your category, but the shape of the race never changes.

Races are held indoors on a set course, and between each run and each station you pass through a transition area known as the roxzone, where the clock keeps ticking. You can enter as a single, or share the load in doubles and relay formats, but the running and the stations stay the same. That mix of pacing, transitions and fatigue management is a big part of what makes the race such a test, and it is why smart preparation looks a lot like hybrid training.

Why is HYROX a hybrid challenge?

Look at that station list and you can see the trap in training one discipline at a time. If you only run, the sled push and the wall balls will break you. If you only lift, 8km of running will. HYROX sits right in the middle, where running fitness, strength and functional conditioning all have to show up on the same day.

Grip and core stamina matter just as much as raw strength here, because the farmers carry, the sled work and the wall balls all keep asking for them long after your forearms want to quit. And because a run comes between every station, you have to hold a steady pace while tired rather than run fresh. Training all of these together, in the right doses across a week, is the whole game.

This is where a single-discipline app leaves a gap. A pure running plan will not build the leg strength for sled work, and a pure strength plan will not build the aerobic base for the runs. Edge treats running, strength and HIIT as one plan rather than three, which is the same balance HYROX demands. You get your intervals, your heavy days and your conditioning in one programme, with a real coach to message when a session feels off or your race date shifts.

How does Edge Rewards work?

Edge Rewards is a free programme launching in October 2026. It is not live yet, but here is what it will do. Every workout you log earns points, and points turn into real products in an in-app marketplace. It is not cash and it is not a payout. It is simply a way for the training you already do to come back to you as things you will genuinely use.

The maths is straightforward. You earn 1 point for every minute of any logged workout, up to 50 points, plus 2.5 points for every 1,000 steps, up to 25 points. The two combine to a daily cap of 50 points for free members, with no roll over, and your balance resets to zero at the end of each calendar month. Any logged workout counts, including manual entries and sessions imported from Strava, Apple Health, Garmin and Coros, so your runs, your station work and your strength days all earn the same way.

There is no separate rewards workout to remember and nothing extra to switch on. If a session lands in your Edge log, whether you tapped it in by hand or it synced across from your watch, it counts toward that day's points. That is a good fit for HYROX prep, where the plan already mixes long runs, short sharp intervals, station practice and heavy lifting.

How does a HYROX training week turn into points?

Because any logged session earns points, a normal race-prep week fills up your balance without any extra effort. Here is how a typical week might map onto points for a free member, remembering that the daily total is capped at 50.

DayTypical sessionPoints (free member)
MondayEasy 40 minute run plus daily stepsAbout 50
Tuesday45 minute station and HIIT circuitAbout 50
WednesdayMobility work and an easy walkUp to 45
Thursday50 minute strength block50
Friday30 minute run plus daily stepsAbout 50
SaturdayLong hybrid session, run and stations50
SundayRecovery walk, steps onlyUp to 25

On most training days you are close to your daily maximum, and the handy rule of thumb is that about a week of training earns you a free coffee. Stack a few weeks of race prep on top of that and you are redeeming regularly by the time race day comes around.

What can you actually redeem?

Points are spent in an in-app marketplace stocked by partner brands, with a mix of free items and discounts. The categories are the kind of things that fit neatly around training: coffee and drinks, gels, snacks and bars, protein and supplements, and apparel and gear. Rewards are gifted by partners, and the line-up will grow over time. Everyone earns and everyone redeems, whether you are on the free app or on Edge Pro.

Does Edge Pro change the maths?

It does. Edge Pro members earn with Double XP and have no daily cap, so a heavy race-prep week keeps earning long after a free member has hit 50 for the day. Pro also unlocks exclusive prizes and secret offers on top of the standard marketplace. During HYROX prep, when you might train six days a week and log long weekend sessions, that uncapped earning adds up fast.

Edge Pro is £19.99 a month with a free 7-day trial, and it is the same plan that gives you a fully personalised hybrid programme across running, strength, HIIT and mobility, ready in 15 minutes, with a real coach to message anytime. 18,000+ members already train with Edge across running, strength and HIIT.

How do I start before rewards go live?

Rewards land in October, but your training should not wait. Build your hybrid base now, log every run, station session and strength block, and connect Strava, Garmin, Apple Health or Coros so nothing you do goes uncounted. When Rewards switches on, the habit is already there, and so are the points. Join the waitlist for founding-member early access so you are first in line the day it goes live.
